COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This medical careers pathway course introduces students to basic human anatomy and explores the specialized language used within the healthcare field, with an emphasis on pronunciation, spelling, and definitions of medical terms in relation to the human body.

Knowledge of basic human anatomy and medical terminology enhances the student's ability to successfully secure employment or pursue advanced education in health care.

This course also provides students with an overview of the most important health challenges facing the world's population today and examines the efforts taken to improve human health at a global level.

Students successfully completing this course and final can earn Butte College credit.

This course fulfils the CTE graduation requirement and is a science elective course.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1. Better understand the structural components and Latin roots of scientific terms.

2. Interpret the meaning of medically-related vocabulary.

3. Understand the key global health issues facing countries.

4. Identify the factors influencing the health of humans worldwide.

5. Consider solutions for issues preventing good health around the world.
